No. The default appearance for most of the controls are operating system theme dependent. For instance: v6 through v13 will all have the same appearance on Windows 10/11.

Inconsistent appearance of square root sign in plot labels
Based upon my tests and the comments to the original question, it appears that this problem does not occur in Mathematica 12.2. The recommended solution is therefore to upgrade.
