To avoid accidentally reuse the same variables in different sections of my notebook, I go to Evaluation menu and choose Notebook's default context > Unique to each cell group.

But sometimes I do want to share a function's definition globally. Is there any way to do this?

$\begingroup$ So do you want to use global symbols in a cell or define new global symbols there? You can always do Global`x = 5 $\endgroup$ – Kuba Sep 13 '19 at 11:04
