I'm considering using an old notebook with a built-in modem as an automated attendant. Basically, it would have the following functionalities:

  • static menu
  • pre-recorded messages
  • caller interaction via keypad
  • call recording

Usually I use Mathematica for numerical stuff, therefore I'm somehow a layman with whether Mathematica can access the modem or not (I'm pretty sure the audio processing won't be a problem).

I've also tried a fast search at internet (including tags here at StackExchange) but there is almost no information about modem + Mathematica.

Is it possible to access the modem and develop such automated attendant with Mathematica? If so, briefly, what are the main steps?
