Jul 6, 2012 at 8:25 comment added Leonid Shifrin +1. I thought about using Joda library in my answer as well, but did not want to introduce external dependencies. The reason I provided a vectorized (longer) version in my answer is to outsource loops to Java. Without doing this, it would not really matter how fast is individual day of week computation in Java, since the call to Java method via JLink has a constant overhead, which is in fact much larger than this computation time. I avoid this overhead by calling the function only once, and of course also Java loops are very much faster than top-level M loops.
