I ultimately simply replaced the u as an associate with u defined via rules, e.g., params = {u[1]->1, u[2]->2} and apply the rules to the result of Derivative. I manage other parameters in the function definition that way so it doesn't add much overhead. But your clear explanation certainly helps me understand why it's necessary. Thanks! | |
