This does depend on the text, so if I want to run it on two different strings, they may end up not aligned. Example: Show[Graphics@ TextToOutlines@ Style[#, FontColor -> RandomColor[], FontFamily -> "Helvetica", FontSize -> 8] & /@ {"bar", "_bar"}]
