Have you tried the options to either NMinimize or FindMinimum ? Take a look at the tutorial here. For example, try NMinimize[Sin[10 x^2] + 5 Cos[20 x], {x}, Method -> {"RandomSearch", "SearchPoints" -> 500}] .
