M.'s missing motivation As for the "AlternatingSigns" method, this yields a result good to ~ 80 digits: NSum[(-1)^n/n^3, {n, 1, Infinity}, WorkingPrecision -> 80, AccuracyGoal -> 50, PrecisionGoal -> ∞, Method -> {"AlternatingSigns", "ExtraTerms" -> 100}, NSumTerms -> 100].
