On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

I would like to be considered a candidate for moderator in this election. Since I have a reputation greater than 20000 points, I already have enough privileges to perform some of the tasks moderators do and I have used these privileges as much as I can to help out with maintaining the site. I believe this has prepared me to be a useful member of the moderator team.

There are no other candidates, yet. So for democracy's sake, I nominate myself in the hope that also somebody else will step up in order to enable a real election.

Arguebly, there might be many users much better suited as community moderators, as I am rather new to this site. My first activities date back to July 2017. But I have been constantly active since then and I am also not planning to change that in the future.

Usually, I am online most time of the day and I read almost every post anyways. So I am confident that I can carry also the extra workload as community moderator.

I would like to step up as a candidate for a moderator position. I did not consider this before, because I believe we are a healthy and friendly community that does an excellent job and that our current moderator team handle things great.

Additionally, I never had the feeling that I need a diamond in front of my name to be a respected member of our community. However, we currently face the situation that three of our moderators are much less in involved these days for personal reasons. I deeply care about our community and while I did not see it that way at first, I fully agree with the opinion of MrWizard. If I can be of help by serving as a moderator, it would be an honor to me.

About me: I'm a long-time member of this community for almost 6.5 years and I have never felt more at home in any other online community. I live in Germany and work as a researcher in one of its oldest universities. I'm usually online in the evening and throughout the night which makes my real timezone a mix between Germany and the US.

My Q&A can be found here.
