My idea is that the PlotLegends package messes up the coordinates. Removing the legend-related options fixes it. Can you use the version 9 built in PlotLegends option instead of the (now obsolete) package?

I just want to point out that most of the answers (using the vectorized speedup) won't work for the more general case (e.g. Hamming distance of vectors, edit distance of strings, etc.). If one does not want to desing a specific, highly optimized method for each such case, I found that using Outer is generally the fastest way.

Are you sure your 4th equation is ok? Shouldn't it be the derivative, Y'[t] == ... instead of Y'[t] = ...? At the moment it is recursive. Stell there is no solution for steady state (Solve returns {}).

Note that I is the built-in symbol for the imaginary number, which evaluates to a complex number: MatchQ[I + 1, _Real] returns False. Furthermore, as you already know it, E and even K have built-in meanings which might mess up your calculation.

@Mr.Wizard Sure, but wasn't it the point of OP to set up a, b, c as fixed symbolic arguments? Practically, in this case it would be simpler to only maintain the number of arguments instead of their names.
