comment best practices for saving Datasets and TemporalData to a SQL database
This answer is helpful, even if not the fully implemented toolkit I had hoped for. My Datasets contain other Datasets that in turn contain TemporalData, so some work will be needed to save and extract the data. Separately, I had never seen .MX before, and have been saving simulation results in .M files. Given your suggestion above, I tried .MX and found (a) it saves 1000 simulation outcomes in 34 seconds / 407 Mb, unlike .M, which takes 133 seconds / 1.1 Gb, and (b) it imports the data and reconstructs the original data structures in 4 seconds, unlike .M which takes 182!

comment DateObject from AbsoluteTime broken
I have run into similar problems on OS X, with the new date functions evaporating. Restarting the kernel fixes all.

comment How to export Speak output?
What OS are you using? There are applications that can hijack application audio output and record it, or route it to another application that can record. Under OS X, for example, you can use rogueamoeba.com/audiohijack

comment WSTP (formerly MathLink) problem
Update: I am able to get the code to run if I have copies of the DLL in the Debug directory. However, after running (whether launched from the desktop or from within Mathematica), it crashes before doing anything useful.

comment WSTP (formerly MathLink) problem
@Szabolcs specifying interface 3 changed nothing. It's so odd; if the .dll were actually missing, how could the application even build? And if it's not missing, why can't the binary find it at run-time? Perhaps this is a problem from StackOverflow.

@Szabolcs I took my old code, replaced the MLwhatever calls to WSwhatever, pointed to the WSheaders and WSlibraries, and it compiled and built, but with the confounding outcome above. I'll try changing the interface version and report back.
