@Anne-Claire It should, so long as you don't later kill the parallel kernels. The ParallelEvaluate needs to be run every time the parallel kernels are created.

I know that some volume renderers do only 256 discrete levels (IDL being an ancient example). I was hoping it was a global rendering option that perhaps was causing this.

@belisarius I'm using V9 on OS X. Even if the banding is absent, the discrete color levels are undesirable, which I still see in your output.

It's a "fun" question, but it could easily be generalized to all sports with playoffs if you're worried about it being too narrow. Baseball just seems like the most interesting case, given the number of games played.

@george2079 I'd argue that the kernel should never crash, and instances in which it does so in a reproducible way should be considered bugs. If this is really a "don't do that" situation, it should print an error message rather than taking down the entire kernel.

This is new to the documentation in Mathematica 10 (and the online documentation), it is not mentioned clearly in the Mathematica 9 documentation. There, it appears under "properties & relations" and simply says "The integral of the PDF over the distribution domain needs to be unity."
