comment HoldFirst and inserting additional options into a Grid of Graphics
The other crucial difference from my code seems to be Cases[mheld[[i, j]], _Rule, {2}] with the level specification. Not entirely clear to me why that is needed - something to do with getting underneath the Unevaluated?

I'd tried Hold - isn't it the Unevaluated that does the job?

Does this handle leap years? The division by 365 in DateConv makes me wonder.

+1 for SkeletonTransform - what other nuggets of amazingness are hidden away in little-used corners of this language?

Possibly related: mathematica.stackexchange.com/q/5152/8 I can see how the dots are vertices but how do you know which ones are connected? That's where the percolation approach might be relevant.

This code returns $Failed on my machine (version 8.0.4, Windows 7).

comment SetOptions or other approach to imposing default styling of text in a BarChart Legend?
Thanks! I hadn't realised that this could be done as well as including the Identity trick in your last answer. (There's a blog post in here somewhere...)

@MikeHoneychurch :)

@MikeHoneychurch well, in principle I could, but in practice, that won't be me :)

I just realised that some months ago I had come up with the second option you posted here and forgotten about it! It's definitely the cleanest option for my purpose.

@R.M actually it is already a custom barchart function, but I'm trying to work out how to introduce simple legending into that function. Or I could just leave it to the successful tender for the contract to write the GUI.

comment How to execute a function in the package from java?
I'm not sure I understand the question, but according to the documentation, J/Link and specifically KernelLink are for calling Java from Mathematica, not the other way around. Do you mean execute any functions that are written in Java, that you want to use in Mathematica?

comment How to display a different number of significant digits in each column of TableForm output?
I interpreted the question rather differently, because the OP only asked for 8/4 decimal places, and machine numbers are fine for that, but well explained! Congrats on the 5000!

@kguler actually you can - it doesn't need to be your own question - you can still start your own bounty

comment Can I use a custom (Frame)Ticks specification to define the PlotRange?
This might work within a GUI-type interface for plotting, but I'm not sure I'd be game to use it generically in a package for general use.

comment Can I use a custom (Frame)Ticks specification to define the PlotRange?
Incidentally, while researching this question I found an undocumented option of FindDivisions: FindDivisions[{Min@fakedata1, Max@fakedata1}, 6, Method -> "ExtendRange"] gives {-2, 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10}, as does Method->Automatic; any other setting for Method gives the inner divisions: {0, 2, 4, 6, 8}.

Is there any way you can simplify the problem? Is there, by chance, an analytical integral you could pre-compute?

Unfortunately this does not work with DateListPlot, but it does work with ListPlot/ListLinePlot. As well as "Reverse", "Log" and "Log10" seem to work.
