comment Word Squares and Beyond
@VitaliyKaurov there are four-letter words with no solutions, e.g. "ibex".

comment Word Squares and Beyond
Neat idea, but I can't help wanting to cite the StackExchange perennial: "What have you tried?". Also related: codereview.stackexchange.com/questions/12974/…. Wikipedia tells me that there isn't currently a known order-10 word square, so small order is as far as it goes.

comment Substituting Symbol font for Mathematica's custom font in exported plots and other graphics
@SjoerdC.deVries the difference is that SetOptions works for all characters that would otherwise be substituted (parentheses, +, - etc) without you needing to know which ones are substituted, and you don't have to change fonts by hand every time. But my Q&A pair is a nice hack for those times you need a Greek letter or an unusual symbol.

@SjoerdC.deVries - you can avoid these problems with SetOptions[Graphics,BaseStyle -> {PrivateFontOptions -> {"OperatorSubstitution" -> False}} . I am sure I had another question that covered this but I can't seem to find ti.

comment Plotting best-response functions
I am not a microeconomist so I haven't worked on such things lately, but the non-convexity isn't needed. I was able to get a triple equilibria with this pair of functions: Plot[{Exp[-x - 0.25] + 0.1, Exp[-(0.9 x^(1/2))]}, {x, -1, 12}, PlotRange -> {0, 2}]. Their derivatives need to be equal at two points, so what you are looking for is convex functions (first derivative negative, second derivative positive) where the second derivative crosses.

This is correct but essentially replicates Sjoerd's answer. Nonetheless welcome to Mathematica.SE and thank you for your answer. Interestingly both Table and Range work in that third argument, but not Span.

comment Automatically return output using decimals instead of fractions
You only need to use N at the very last stage before sending the output to Java.

This is a 3D solution - it just looks 2D ;-)

It is: I am just thinking of my userbase here.

This is much better than my attempt. I forgot about the third argument to Circle.

Subscripts don't work in any filename system I know of, so I think that will cause problems.

Can you define "optimal"? Also, are the data available anywhere?

(2) and (3) are separate questions from this one - please post them as another question(s). You'll need to Transpose your data if you have imported it as described in this question so why not just Import it normally as data = Rest@Import["myfile.xls",{"Sheets","Data"}]?

comment How to find pixel position in a graph , given two points?
Hello @hay, welcome to Mathematica.SE! I fixed up your missing parenthesis and tweaked some formatting. However, you have both p1 and P1 in your answer. Mathematica is case-sensitive. Do you mean for them to be the same?

Finally got around to testing this. I think it's the vagaries of the EMF coordinate rounding that cause it to happen. Your solution #1 works on the cropping (but not the linespacing), but you don't need to specify the Pane width. Labeled isn't really an option because I want to allow users to use the PlotLabel option for unusual graph types that aren't covered by my custom plotting functions.
