comment Implementation of smoothing splines function
@Andy Well I read your answer in detail as I was trying to generate a 2D Bspline basis (in this Q). But I have not figured it out yet as I only get a symmetric fit...

Hmm, where are n kmin and kmax used inside of SplineModel?

@RahulNarain Indeed, but the surface also goes through every point, which if there is noise is not desirable.

@ybeltukov Yes, GaussianFilter (or any other smoothing algorithm; perhaps a wavelet transform) + Spline interpolation would work as well.

comment 2D smoothing spline interpolation
Hi! Perhaps the question or the example code was a bit misleading. I need to obtain a differentiable interpolated and smoothed function from the data. In the test case it should be as close as possible to the original.

comment Fitting a plane from a set of (x,y,z) values with uncertainties on 3 variables
The weights are for data points see here. As for posting code, we used to have a FAQ, but I can't seem to find it. @belisarius will know.

I guess you would like to use the measured errors as weights for LinearModelFit?
