@jason Then as a further though, you might not want to just take every 5000th point raw for the interpolation. You might want to smooth it our first. MedianFilter could be a good choice.

I tend to use rules quite a lot because I think it is very clear what they do (although I admit the answer here is quite obfuscated). And yes, the performance does degrade with larger lists. But we don't want to prematurely optimise.
