Thanks for all the input! I doubt that the problem can be solved by a change of the objective function (it is t, so fairly trivial). Also, my employer gave me a Mathematica notebook, in which the problem is solved with FindMinimum and explicitly asked me to speed up the solution by at least a factor of 25 and by using the Concert API of IBM's CPLEX optimization suite. I'm sorry i forgot to add this.
