comment Exporting data to a new excel sheet of a pre-existing excel file
@SjoerdC.deVries I spent a bit of time trying to mimic the .NET but I couldn't get it to work. Thanks for linking to it. I'm not very far from getting it. Whatever I am doing, does open the right excel file but as of now closes it right back. I'll look at it again in a few months when I have more time. Right now I have just switched to saving data as "*.dat" Thanks :)

comment saving Manipulate data inside a notebook
@MarkMcClure Thanks a lot for your answer. I used the SaveDefinitions right now and picked it as the accepted answer because that seemed simpler but I will now try your cell initialization method. I'm sorry, I can't believe that it has taken me 8 days to respond. Thanks a lot.

@Sjoerd C. de Vries and Mark McClure. Thanks for both your answers. Since I had to accept one, I went with Sjoreds. Right now I am using SaveDefinitions but when I have to make an important presentation, I will not take a chance and use Initialization.

I just looked up memoization on wikipedia. It will take be a bit to appreciate and understand the differences between the two ways you described. To address your comment, I actually have a list of 20 different numbers each for about a 100 Matrices. So b , the comparison number, is itself a list and for each of those b's I want to find something in column k closest to it. Then I do this for a 100 Matrices, each with a unique b. This is for one set of overall parameters. So I might wind up doing 2000 such uses of the function, many many times.

@Mr.Wizard thanks. The reason I wanted this as a function is because I will wind up using it on lots of different lists for lots of different columns. I'm guess the function form is better for that.

oh.. the stuff after the _ has meaning... I thought that was just so the programmer can keep track of stuff. Let me try your function.. thanks a lot Mr. Wizard!

Also, can you please make your code into a function. I would like to learn how to do that. Why does nff[num_numba, l_list] := Nearest[Map[Rule[#[[1]], #] &, l]][num][[1]] and nuff[b, list] produce garbage?
