comment Why does this line increase the consumed memory?
I couldn't think of this straightforward solution, thanks :) However, I will report this memory leak as a bug to Wolfram support.

Not yet. I still think that I might do something wrong.

Thanks. Never heard of the function Share before. I added it but it doesn't seem to have an effect... unfortunately...

comment Why does this line increase the consumed memory?
Could be an interesting idea, thanks. Unfortunately, I don't have version 9 installed to try that with another version than 10. I tried the code using UndoOptions but it doesn't seem to have any effect. Memory is still leaking...

comment Why does this line increase the consumed memory?
I applied it several times using Map and Table and the memory consumption raises in each iteration. If i would run it long enough it would certainly kill my computer (which it did already in the real program I use this line). So it never stops or returns the memory...

Thanks for your fast reply. No doesn't have any effect. I will add it directly. It seems that the filter just soaks up my memory ;)

comment How to combine TimeSeries of different dimensionality into TemporalData object?
Thanks for your advice. I will try to do it with the workaround. Do you have an idea if it is possible to do interpolation of values in between but to avoid extrapolation?

comment Is there a way to use video codecs for avi files in Mathematica?
I have the impression that the images appear much darker (maybe due to higher contrast) than in the avi files. But in fact I am not interested in the mov files. I would prefer avi.

I recommend that you post a list of example data or a file that can be downloaded such that other users can play around with it and develop solutions.

thanks very much! That piece of code looks perfect for my needs. I will have to test it on my data.

comment Running out of memory when partitioning an image with ImagePartition
@bills: Thanks for the nice answer. Since my data is quite large, I will try it with the ImageFileFilter idea you proposed and see what comes out. I will add the results to the question.

comment Single image import from stack via FTP connection
@UDB: Indeed ;) Thanks for the comment. I also figured that out and realized that this is quite obvious. However, I came up with a good workaround. Instead of accessing the multi-page tiffs, I wrote the functions to split, export and access the relevant data. I also zipped the images such that they can be accessed faster. This workaround is good enough for the task :)

I will try to do that. I have to say that I used another workaround instead, so I will have to first look for the code ;)
