comment Detecting and counting signals in list data: checking pulse rate
@cormullion, besides analyzing the pulse rate, there are other interesting parameters to investigate. E.g. pulse rate variability is an indicator of stress, see research.cs.tamu.edu/prism/publications/bsn09_choi.pdf So if there are more parameters to detect, it is not really the same question as the other one. Also, input could be from a "R-R" pulse meter that measures pulse over a longer period of time (difficult to have your laptop stuck to your finger..:-)

comment How do I check if any element in a list is positive?
A general guidance for how to "map" loop constructions to functional ones is found in this question, see "alternatives to loops"

comment When do I use Mathematica, when do I use Gephi, and how do I use them together?
Good point! If I can generate and work with the graph in my example, the visualization could be done in MMA. Regarding the "missing coding part", there is no coding involved in visualizing the graph, more of thinking about which layout that makes sense given attributes of the bipartite graph. Before I accept the answer (basically - do it in MMA), I will check if it is practical and works from a performance point of view. Also, to share the data, I can scramble the names clients and the offerings and share the graph data through Google docs.
