comment How to create several 3D plots of 2D functions in Mathematica?
This is great. I don't understand all of it, but it does what I need it to do. Thanks a bunch.

This is exactly what I'm thinking of. Can you change the color of each plot?

@Louis I was hoping for something more like the Plot3D, but that doesn't do what I need. In fact, it fails.

@J.M. I looked at that, but wasn't sure if it applied here. (I'm a Mathematica plotting novice.)

comment Mathematica not seeing my environment/system variables
As @halirutan exposed, I didn't capitalize correctly. Now what do I do when I'm expecting an environment variable, but don't see it in Mathematica when I use GetEnvironment?

Of course this is the answer. Now what do I do if I'm expecting a variable (i.e., I can see it in bash) but Environment doesn't see it. (I double checked that I have the right capitalization!)

No I haven't seen that. Thanks for pointing that out. I'm reading it now.

What confuses me about StringExpressions are the multitude of ~. Are they separators? Do they indicate a pattern? I'm not sure what they mean.

comment How to assign (and retrieve) variables with subscripts?
Thanks all for your comments. I'll try to avoid doing this in the future. Unfortunately, this is why I use Mathematica. If I can't do this, then I'll most likely stick with another language.
