comment Why won't Mathematica Solve a set of two equations for one variable?
Thanks for your answer. You might have guessed that the example wasn't my real problem :-), and eliminating y like in your Solve example is no option. It's a set of 3 equations with 7 variables in $\mathbb{C}$, so I'm not going to eliminate by hand :-).

ConditionalExpression[y==13/2, y==13/2] is not true??

I see. Thanks for your answer. But couldn't it return a conditional expression then: ConditionalExpression[1/2, y=13/2]? Too far-fetched? Also, it knows y isn't assigned.

comment Can I limit PlotRange for 1 function in a Plot?
Thanks for your answer. I'm a beginner at Mathematica, and accepted Artes' answer because it's easier to understand. But thanks again.

@Szabolcs - Thanks again. I should have known better than to use a single letter as a function or variable name :-/. But this was meant to be a quickie :-)

Thanks, J.M. and @Szabolcs. Szabolcs, I learned about it browsing through the list of SE sites at the top of another SE site's page. I'm mostly active in electronics.SE now, but registered in a dozen or so.

Thanks. Makes sense. But I also got this in a new notebook. Does that mean that the scope of symbols is session-wide instead of notebook-constrained? (Not what I would expect)

comment Assign the results from a Solve to variable(s)
I think I'll use your first solution for now, until I get the hang of ReplaceAll. @Szabolcs: Yes, Mma virgin. Thanks, all.

comment Assign the results from a Solve to variable(s)
@sebhofer - I want to assign the first x value to a variable X1, then the y value to Y1, the other two to X2 and Y2. I just don't seem to get the hang of references yet.
