A university math lecturer. I think I still also remember how some research gets done. I also like to think I still remember basics of programming and bug hunting, but recent events made me unsure :-). Mostly asking and learning at Mathematica.SE. A proud owner of a shiny copy of Mathematica 9.

I agree. I am migrating this, because answering this may require (as far as I can tell) familiarity with Mathematica's syntax and logic. Valentin, I am migrating this to Mathematica.SE. They have their own standards for layouts of question. Follow your question there, ask locals for help, and try and edit the question to conform with what they want. They like the code snippets displayed a bit differently, because the answerers like it if they can copy/paste the code snippet to a notebook, and run/examine it there. I edit to give you the idea, but I'm not sure if that's exactly what they like.

@MichaelE2: Not sure about terminology. Sorry about the confusion.

Thank you, @kguler. Setting Lighting->None, and replacing, for example, Red with the Glow[Red] in the Polygon specification does exactly this! Do you mind posting that as an answer?

Thank you, Jens. I just encountered this same problem. Diagnosing what the problem may be I tried to get around it with a suitable RegionFunction. To no avail. Apparently that is applied after Mathematica has decided on a scale.

Vedat, select this code snippet from your Mathematica notebook, copy it, and paste it into your answer. Then select it with your mouse again, and turn it into a preformatted code block (click the curly braces on the toolbar above the edit window). An image is useless to answerers. But we can copy/paste that preformatted snippet to our own Mathematica notebooks and test it/ play with it.

Accepting this to let the question drift to the background. My learning process continued in this question. Thanks all, once more!

Oh dear! @belisarius is right! How did I miss that <insert blushing emoticon>? It zooms just right, too! Would you like to write that as an answer, please? This is the first time I have ever seen a Mathematica-option needing quotation marks.

Oh, @JasonB, your observation was the key to solving all my problems. If you feel like posting it as an answer, I would surely accept that :-)

Thanks, @Jason. <insert blush emoticon> That was silly of me. I added the ParametricPlot later, and didn't test it. Of course, in Mathematica the error message flashes out so fast, but I keep seeing the errorneous frame in animation.

@cormullion: No, I'm not sure. But embedding the resulting .swf to a .pdf- document produced by LaTeX should be possible according to the documentation of a package called media9. My attempts to do that have failed, and I felt that something might be wrong with the .swf-file. It is quite possible that I am wrong.
