I think there's an issue with using a shape beyond the matching of coordinates. Try a complicated country shape like Italy or Greece and you'll see that the words are not at all resembling the shape of the resp. country. This might have to do with the weights and the scaling of course but still...

There's some x in place of k in the integrant. Is this deliberate? As in, do you want to have a result parametrized by x or did you mean to integrate wrt to k in which case if you change these to k it calculates fine

You are right (as per the best way to write a char code onto "c") the method still hangs if you do it and then try ReadString[c, EndOfBuffer] (in my system at least)

If you try to write some ascii control characters to "c" it still hangs - try WriteString[c, FromCharacterCode[4]] (which is what I'd thought would work). +1 anyway!
