Create string from character code

Is it possible to convert a charcode/keycode to a string?

I want to do this to create variables in a generated equation.

ToCharacterCode["abcABCαβγ"]
(*

*)
FromCharacterCode[%]
(*
=>    "abcABCαβγ"
*)

To create unique symbols, use

Unique["x"]
