I'm considering getting Mathematica Workbench 2. Looking at the videos on Workbench 2 and on "Profiling Mathematica code" @ 01:09 I see the current version nr 2 dates back to at least oktober 3 2007 i.e soon to be 7 years old. This seems a bit outdated to be software. I don't seem to find any revision history.

Are there any alternatives on the market, that have similar capabilities and are more up to date ?

WRI is on the verge of launching MMA V.10 as well as many related technologies, including a browser based IDE. I have not heard anything about a new version of Workbench however. There is an open source initiative for a better IDE that you can use for free. –  Pickett Mar 9 '14 at 11:48
@Pickett: That certainly looks interesting. I will give it a go. –  MathLind Mar 9 '14 at 13:01
@rm -rf: Rephrased the question so as not to explicitly address the Wolfram support team but rather any Mathematica programmer. –  MathLind Mar 9 '14 at 19:34
Thanks, but then it would be a duplicate of this :) IMO, halirutan's plugin (linked to by Pickett) is one of the best at what it does. It's still actively being developed, so some features such as debugging and unit testing are not implemented yet, but it will be... eventually. –  rm -rf Mar 9 '14 at 20:17
