Capturing external command output [closed]

Say I want to run a system command (e.g. python my-script.py --some-args) and capture its output, assigning it to a variable. Is there a clean and simple way of doing this in mathematica, without using temporary files?

I've been through the documentation on invoking system commands but can't quite work out whether this is possible, or if so how to do it.

Is it as simple as myVariable=Import["!python my-script.py --some-args", "Text"] or are you having other difficulties? Otherwise this works too: ReadList["!python my-script.py --some-args", String]. –  jVincent Jul 15 at 13:06
Thanks! I didn't realise it was this simple. –  Will Vousden Jul 15 at 14:50
