# Mathematica 9.0.1 is clearing variables

I have noticed an errant behavior new in Mathematica 9. I thought at first it was because I was importing a very large text file and Mathematica just couldn't handle it. But now, I have seen the errata repeat with a relatively small ~13MB text file.

Once the file is imported, and you perform virtually any other command on the variable that is holding the imported data, Mathematica clears not only that variable but every other variable defined as if

Remove["Global*"];

@Sinistar If it is a kernel crash, you should see it because the highlighting of defined variables which had a black color, change to a very dark blue, when you move the cursor through the notebook with the arrow keys. Another way to verify the crash is to evaluate 1+1` after the strange thing happens. If it needs some time then the kernel was crashed, because starting a new kernel takes .5-2 seconds –  halirutan Apr 18 at 1:13
