since Mathematica V8 the startup time is very long and somehow the complete GUI seems to freeze at the startup for approximately one minute. This happens on both of my computers, where one is running win7 Professional 32Bit and the other is running win7 professional 64Bit. Ive already found two similar questions over here (link1 link2) but none of these could help me to solve this prob so far. I printed the startup times as described in link2 and the result is the following:

    Initializing kernel connections... -> 0.234
    Initializing cell styles... -> 1.014
    Initializing fonts... -> 1.419
    Initializing menus... -> 1.451
    Initializing defaults notebook... -> 1.7
    Initializing defaults clipboards... -> 2.574
    Initializing internal preferences... -> 2.839
    Initializing kernels... -> 3.728
    Opening Welcome Screen... -> 4.181
    Closing Splash Screen... -> 4.212
    Preloading Favorites... -> 4.305
    Handling CommandLineOptions... -> 4.305
    Opening Files... -> 4.305
    Do Startup Action... -> 4.305
    Finished -> 46.051

Notice, that "Finished" takes about 46s. What does that mean? Any ideas how to fix it? Thanks in advance!!

The difference is that his problem seems to be the splash screen, but my prob is the "Finished". I know that my question is very similar to the one i first linked, but there i find no solution to this prob... – Benny83 Feb 27 at 11:51
AV program having difficulty scanning the Java runtime? This happened to me a while ago with McAfee and I notice that MS Forefront also causes some delay (about 5-10 seconds). Some programs may be worse than others. – Oleksandr R. Feb 27 at 12:11

@Benny83 You could disable the splash screen by adding the -b command-line key when launching the FrontEnd. – Alexey Popkov Feb 27 at 16:33
