I wanted to use wolframAlpha by hitting two times the equal sign. Normally I get the small wolframalpha logo but somehow it doesn't show anymore? I get a strange character instead. I tried starting mathematica (v9) by holding ctrl/shift but that didn't work neither restarting my computer Any thoughts?

Looks like you have messed up boxes (the red rectangle)... Did you modify the default stylesheets or are you using a custom stylesheet? – rm -rf Jan 11 at 21:48
@rm -rf I'm using the default stylesheet. The red rectangle is put by the frontend when I type a = sign. Even the help pages don't show the wolframsign anymore! – Lou Jan 11 at 22:01
Have you tried quitting Mathematica and restarting? Usually these fix some of the minor box issues – rm -rf Jan 11 at 22:02
Isn't that the equal-star symbol that's been changed to a font symbol in 9 (from bitmap graphics in 8)? Could be a font issue. What operating system are you on? – Szabolcs Jan 11 at 22:03
If it's a font issue, I think you could try this patch but I'm not sure. I guess it wouldn't hurt and it's simpler than a full reinstall ... what do you think @rm-rf ? If I got it right, that patch should ensure that you have the correct fonts for v9 and they're correctly installed. – Szabolcs Jan 11 at 22:06
