How to fix this error? Here is the error message:

"There appears to be an error in the file named below. You should close it without saving, then check the "Parse and load entire notebook into memory upon opening" checkbox in the Notebook Options dialog. File name: ...."

It seems that all my Mathematica files under the same folder could not be recovered.

Can anyone please help?

Thanks a lot!

If these Notebooks are not confidential please upload one. How else are we to understand what the problem is and if there is a solution? – Mr.Wizard Jan 1 at 18:06

I have seen that error message under Windows myself. This indicated a corrupt file and the Frontend cannot successfully parse the code. In my case a comma or bracket was missing. This happened to me when I left files, that are on the network, open and my computer went to sleep. I usually used a backup to recover. I avoid this now by closing all files before I leave work. – Matariki Jan 1 at 19:18

Sometimes you can salvage your file in a plain text editor. Success depends on the level of your Mathematica knowledge and the amount of corruption in the file. Sometimes a single well placed bracket may solve your problems. – Sjoerd C. de Vries Jan 1 at 21:24
