Sum and integral are threated the same by NDSolve in Mathematica 9:

The problem was also in Mathematica 7. I submitted a bugreport to the technical support, they admitted this is a bug, fixed it in Mathematica 8, and now in Mathematica 9 the bug is here again.

I am not happy to see bug findings appearing as questions. It might be OK if it were worded such as to ask for verification by other users with different hardware. – m_goldberg Dec 20 '12 at 3:54
