During programming and to avoid evaluating a notebook again, I save my data with DumpSave in .mx-format. Mathematica actually saves the data, but when I try to reload the data some days later with Get Mathematica won't import it.

Any ideas?

@ssch newcalc=True; IF[newcalc, DumpSave[dumpdir <> "/sensi.mx", sensi], Get[dumpdir <> "/sensi.mx"]; ]; dumpdir is the name of the directory where the data are saved, sensi is the name of the variable that I want to save. – Emanuele Dec 1 '12 at 12:16
Is the file still there, can you find it in a file browser? Is the spelling of name, path and separatirs ok? On what OS are you? Did you change OS? What kind of errors (if any) do you get? – Sjoerd C. de Vries Dec 1 '12 at 12:23
You write "dumpdir is the name of the directory" not "dumpdir contains the name of the directory". If that is true then you should use double quotes around the name. – Sjoerd C. de Vries Dec 1 '12 at 12:27
@Sjoerd C. de Vries - Yes I still have the file; name,path and separators are all right and I don't get any errors. I have windows 7 and I did the periodic updates. I don't think it's a problem with OS becasuse my professor (OS X) has the same problem. Sorry dumpdir contains the name of directory – Emanuele Dec 1 '12 at 12:36
